Impacted by Incarceration?
A Better Tomorrow Starts Here.
Understanding The Problem.
American incarceration happens at alarming rates, especially in black and brown communities. This national crisis contributes to larger problems that affect society. Here are a few realities
Expensive - the cost of incarceration costs taxpayers over $260 billion per year! That averages about $30,000 per inmate, depending on the state.
Causes social and economic harm to communities - there are over 40,000 legal restrictions on individuals after their incarceration.
Devastating to children - 2.7 million children have an incarcerated parent
And the biggest problem is recidivism! Within five years of release, 77% of formerly incarcerated will go back to prison.
Coach Smedley has the Solution.
Coach Alisa Smedley experienced incarceration firsthand when her father went to prison for a 15 year sentence while she was in elementary school. More relatives would also be incarcerated, serving a total of 75 years behind bars.
As a family impacted by incarceration, Coach Smedley wanted to create a space where family members could find support. She also wanted to help those who are released to avoid the paths that keep leading back to incarceration.
Coach Smedley launched the Center for Reentry Excellence (CRE) to bring high quality, evidence-based services to adult men who are currently or have been incarcerated. CRE also has services for family members. With a dedicated team and proven track record of success, Coach Smedley will help you or your loved one to finally end the destructive cycle of incarceration
